Karen's wedding

after a few months of preparation...the event of our year arrived...hot and sunny! It turned out to be a perfect day, with the bride looking fabulous, the groom at his handsomest, family happy and calm, and with great friends to help us celebrate this momentous and sacred occassion.
Just wish we had taken more pictures ourselves, since we are STILL waiting for the photographer to release the pictures and CD! *** Buyer beware*** they can take pictures but they're not always skilled in customer service! So for now this is all we have (thanks to bff Ashley) Come back in the coming months to check for additions!

Shower-Las Vegas

Courtesy of her new in-laws, Karen (lucky girl), got a shower thrown for her in Vegas too! I didn't think to ask for any pictures, but here is the cute invitation they had with instructions to bring a favorite recipe.

Bridal Shower-Claremont

Sister Hyer (baby Alina) and Ashley

Lovely gifts

the superb hostess Amy

the beginnings of the wonderful breakfast brunch

Thanks to Amy and help from Ashley, Connie and Kari, this turned out to be a beautiful, scrumptious affair with lots of good friends. Her mother-in-law to be, grandmother-in-law to be, and sister-in-law to be went the extra mile in driving down from Vegas to spend the day, before driving all the way home that afternoon! Karen, and all the Boyer's, are so lucky to be adopted into the Hyer Family. But what a sweet BIG sister Amy was, to arrange all this for Karen while she is busy taking care of her two active toddler's.

The Engagement Portrait

So the magical day is getting closer with the taking of engagement pictures done, and the invitation finalized...the groom seems calm and relaxed. All is going smoothly! Don't Karen and Chandler look incredible? What photographer could go wrong with such a beautiful couple as her models? There were so many pictures to chose from, but this turned out to be the best for an invitation.

preparations

so right now this summer is all about taking care of business...namely the wedding! With the help of our good friend and creative mentor Michelle we narrowed down Karen to some thing we could work with. A wedding planner makes all the difference in keeping us focused!

Bridal Shower-Provo

roomates and sister
After returning from a semester in Amman Jordan, Karen's roomates threw a shower in Provo for our bride-to-be before she headed back to California to work on her preparations. Why didn't I get any pictures of the nice spread they had for her courtesy of Heather and Laura?! Well at least the memory of a good time is preserved!

the dress

so here is the wedding dress being modified for Karen to wear to the temple. It is even better than we imagined. Catrina at A Bridal Center in Provo, UT is our expert seamstress, taking a strapless gown and making a seemingly seamless transition to a top fill.

Girls and Valentines

What a nice winter time surprise...the girls got to drive down from Utah to visit and take in some much needed sunshine. We spent the afternoon together at one of our favorite eating spots( isn't Ken lucky to be surrounded by all his women?)...and then before the girls left we had our traditional "red stew" with a wonderful brownie, mascarpone dessert for Valentines!

Other things in Sedona

Most of Sedona is about the natural beauty... Ken and Linda enjoying the view from the top at Airport road

...but there are definitely some strange phenomenon in Sedona, and my kids thought it was only fitting to do as the "natives" do!

The BIG day

...and finally the day of celebration! Lunch at the diner in town, and THEN the DINNER at the Silver Saddle where we were treated to a "compliments of the chef" hors d'oeuver of bison meat on a prickly pear cactus salsa. Next we enjoyed appetizers that were bison meat, prickly pear cactus fries and python!!! YES! Python battered and fried and called "snake bites". We then proceeded to have our palates cleansed with a lemon icee, and had our main entrees. Nana had duckling and I can't remember what pop had, although I do recollect a cactus margarita or two. They finished up with a wonderful melted chocolate dessert made especially for them! yummmm, a meal NOT to be forgotten any time soon!

Here we are after church on Sunday the 21st. We celebrated "Christmas" with the grandbabies that day since they will be taking their turn with Grandma Sue this year. It was so fun!

Maui moments

Aaaaaah the memory of Maui...
